The Novel H1N1 (swine) flu is widespread in Minnesota, affecting all regions. As the number of cases increase, we expect that the number of hospitalizations will also increase.
Persons who are hospitalized continue to be those persons with underlying health problems.
The Minnesota Department of Health is being vigilant for changes that would suggest a change in severity of the disease. At this point, the increased number of hospitalized cases in Minnesota likely represents an increase in the total number of persons affected and not a change in the severity of the disease.
Hospitals are working closely with MDH and other health authorities to try to protect patients, employees and the public.
