Accredited Records Technician (A.R.T.): Performs a variety of duties such as chart analysis, abstracting and coding as assigned in compliance with the international coding system.
Admitting Clerk: Interviews patients, arranges for admission to hospital, obtains and records pertinent identifying insurance information. Within established guidelines, may determine method of payment.
Admitting Supervisor: Supervises the inpatient/outpatient admissions process to ensure timely, efficient admitting and accurate complete admissions information.

Bio-Med Technician II: Maintains, repairs, inspects, and installs mechanical, electro-mechanical, general medical and diagnostic treatment apparatus. May specialize in a particular type of equipment. Typically requires an associate degree and advanced knowledge of electronic theory and skill in testing electronic equipment. C Cancer Register: Collects, compiles and maintains statistical data on all cancer patients. Analyzes and disseminates data appropriately. Typically requires an accredited records technician certification.
Cardiovascular Technologist: Assists the physician in the performance of invasive diagnostic and therapeutic angiography procedures. Scrubs in for handling guide wires, catheters, administering contrast injections, and flushing catheters. Monitors and records patients' physiological functions. Requires knowledge or experience gained from a two-year approved paramedic school as well as a high degree of technical aptitude and knowledge of anatomy and physiology.

Certified Medical Aide (CMA): Under the direction of a nurse, performs safe, accurate administration of medications in the acute, long-term care and home health settings. Must have a current state board of Nursing certification.
Certified Nursing Midwife: Provides antepartum, intrapartum and postpartum care to uncomplicated OB patients, delivers babies, performs gynecological patient exams, provides patient education. Requires licensure and completion of an accredited midwifery program.
Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA): Assists professional nursing personnel by performing simple treatment and related bedside patient care. Uses skill and knowledge in basic nursing procedures and techniques. Must have current CNA certification through the state department of Health.

Chaplain: Provides spiritual and emotional support and guidance to patients, their families, guests, volunteers, employees and physicians.
Chemical Dependency Counselor: Conducts intake interviews, group and individual therapy sessions for patients with chemical dependency disorders and their families. Participates in development of program and educational materials. Coordinates patient treatment with physician, inpatient treatment facilities, and community agencies. Typically requires bachelor's or master's degree in relevant area.
Clinic Licensed Practical Nurse: Assists professional nursing staff by performing routine duties within prescribed limitations in caring for hospital patients. May assist in taking and recording vital signs, preparing and administering irrigations and enemas. May give baths, heat lamp treatments and tube feedings; may record intake and output of fluids and assist in admissions and discharges. A current LPN licensure is required.
Clinic Nurse, Registered: Assists physicians in delivering health care to patients. May make physical assessment of patient's conditions, triage patient phone calls, counsels patients, provides patient education, takes patient's histories, administers prescribed medications, changes dressings, cleans wounds and monitors patient's vital signs. Requires current registered nurse license.
Clinic Pre-authorization/Referral Specialist: Manages referral and prior authorization process. Receives referrals and prior authorizations, verifies eligibility and/or benefits, enters pending status and approval referral authorization number into system. Uses established guidelines to determine whether a procedure is covered by a health plan and to determine if diagnosis requires nurse review.
Clinic Receptionist: Performs all front office tasks in clinic including registration and chart preparations. Provides a warm, positive welcoming environment for customers.
Clinical Nurse Specialist: Provides leadership within clinical area of expertise to administration, nursing staff, physicians, patients and families through practice, consultation, education and research. D Diabetes Educator: Provides individualized, goal-directed diabetes management education for children with diabetes and their families. Requires registered nurse, BSN-preferred or registered dietitian, and state- licensure.
Dialysis Technician: Initiates, monitors and terminates dialysis treatments under registered nurse (RN) dialysis team. Primary responsibilities require collaboration with registered nurse to deliver prescribed dialysis to patient, monitor and care for patients during dialysis treatment and report any unusual findings to the R.N.
Diet Aide: Performs diversified duties in the kitchen and tray line, e.g., maintains diet records, checks trays for accuracy, and tallies food requirements on worksheets for cooks and other similar tasks.
Diet Technician: Provides nutritional assessments and support of patients' intake needs under the direction of a dietitian. Provides education on basic nutrition to patients and nursing staff. Requires an associate degree in dietetic technology.
Dietary Supervisor: Directs and supervises staff and daily activities within food service. Implements established policies and procedures.
Dietitian, Staff: Develops therapeutic diets and provides counseling following a physician's prescription for patients. May oversee menu, food, and tray preparation to ensure quality. Typically requires a bachelor's degree and ADA registration.
Discharge Planner: Coordinates plans and orders for patients leaving the hospital if follow-up care is required. Assists patients and their families with social, emotional and environmental difficulties related to the patient's illness. Typically requires BSN or BSW.
Durable Equipment (DME) Technician: Delivers, in-services and instructs, maintains repairs, retrieves and cleans nebulizer equipment, performs oxygen follow-up telephone calls or visits patients requiring additional training on oxygen equipment and makes other deliveries of durable medical equipment as necessary. E EAP Counselor: Act as a resource for employee and clients in offering confidential help, solving problems that affect personnel well being or work performance. Includes assessments, referrals and follow-up. Typically requires licensure or certification.
Echocardiography Technologist: Performs echocardiography of the heart to identify abnormalities and pathology in both adult and pediatric patients. Exercises initiative and judgment in the examination according to the needs of the individual patients.
Electrocardiograph Technician (EKG Tech): Records electromotive variations in the action of heart muscle using electrocardiograph equipment to provide data for diagnosis of heart ailments.
Electroencephalographic Technician (EEG Tech): Attaches electrical monitoring equipment to patients to record electrical impulse potential within the brain. Data recorded is used by physicians to aid in diagnosis of brain disorders. Position requires graduation from accredited school of EEG technology and eligibility to write registration examination.
Emergency Room Technician: Assists the emergency room R.N. and physician in the care of emergency patients. Must have current CAN license and/or certification as EMT (emergency medical technician).
Endoscopic Technician: Provides direct patient care and technical support services during endoscopic procedures in compliance with hospital and departmental policies, procedures in compliance with hospital and departmental policies, procedures and guidelines. Coordinates the set-up and turnover of the procedure rooms, assists the physician during procedures, and trouble-shoots equipment and accessories. A certified nursing assistant certification and one year of experience is typically required.
Engineer: Services and repairs a variety of electrical, plumbing and mechanical equipment used within the hospital and/or performs preventative maintenance programs. Typically holds an engineer's license.

Food Services Worker: Performs a variety of tasks oriented toward preparation and serving of food and maintenance of cleanliness in kitchen and cafeteria. May act as cafeteria cashier.
Foundation Development Specialist: Responsible for fund-raising, events management, outreach coordination and constituency communications on behalf of designated programs and projects of affiliated operating units and their respective communities. Home Health Aide: Under the supervision of a registered nurse, physical therapist, occupational therapist, or speech therapist, provides limiting nursing care and therapy services to patients in their own homes. Requires certification as a home health aide and/or CNA.
Home Health Hospice Coordinator: Supervises home health/hospice staff; regularly functions as directed by service provider and assists clinical staff with assessment of patients; supervises staff, including recommendations for hire, and performance evaluations. Home Health Licensed Physical Therapy Assistant (LPTA): Performs para-professional therapy duties to patients in their home under the direction of a physical therapist for the care and the treatment of patients having physical disorders; does related work as required. Home Health Occupational Therapist (OT): Upon physician referral, selects, performs and/or directs assistance in educational, vocational and recreational activities designed to restore maximum function to physically and/or mentally disabled patients in their home. Home Health Physical Therapist (PT): Treats patients in their home with disabilities, disorders and injuries to relieve pain. Develops, restores, or maintains physical function by the use of exercise, message, heat, cold, air, light, water, electricity or sound therapies, as prescribed by a physician. Requires graduation from the American Physical Therapy Association-approved associate's degree program.
Home Health R.N.: Provides quality care to patients in their homes under the direction of the physician. Evaluates safety concerns and coordinates home health care services. Requires current R.N. license.
Home Health Speech and Language Pathologist (SLP): Evaluates, treats and provides rehabilitation and counseling for patients in their home with speech and language problems to restore or improve communicative efficiency. Housekeeper/Environmental Service Worker: Cleans and sanitizes rooms and furnishings in assigned work area following established policies and procedures.

Human Resources Assistant: Serves as a specialized assistant in one or more of the following areas: employment interviewing, benefits, compensation, or policy and procedure drafting.
Human Resources Generalist: Performs variety recruitment, employee relations, counseling and compensation functions as directed for specific areas of the hospital. May advise and assist management staff in the application and interpretation of personnel policies, legal and union contract compliance, transfers and terminations. Information Services Project Manager: Manages the resources for planning and maintaining all clinical applications. Responsible for the development of an implementation strategy, successful planning, execution and user acceptance of all patient clinical application projects. Cultivates a customer-focused methodology while collaborating closely with other I.S. management, staff and customers to provide for optimum functions of all applications. Provides input and assists with the I.S. division budget and strategic planning.
Information Services Telecommunications Coordinator: Supervises and coordinates the day-to-day operations of the telephone system network. Regularly functions as direct service provider and technical expert in telecommunications matters. Assists in managing voice service vendors. L Laboratory Assistant: Performs non-technical and semi-technical duties in support of technical or professional laboratory staff. Duties may include staining slides, data entry, providing telephone results to physicians and nursing staff; receiving, sorting, and distributing specimens; media quality control, inventory and ordering, cover slipping, centrifuging, preparing reagents. Certification is not required.
Laboratory Section Supervisor: Supervises the activities of professional, technical and support staff performing tests and analyses in one or more of the following specialties: hematology, microbiology, chemistry, immunology, cytology, or blood banking.
Lactation Specialist: Provides assessment, assistance, and support of infant nutrition, particularly breastfeeding, to adult and adolescent mothers and families. Provides education to staff and physicians, as well as to the community. Requires certification through the International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners, or R.N. and meets eligibility criteria for IBCLC exam.
Laundry Worker: Processes soiled and clean linen using a variety of equipment including commercial-sized washing machines, dryers, flatwork ironers, folding machines and heat transfer machines.
Licensed Practical Nurse: Assists professional nursing staff by performing routine duties within prescribed limitations in caring for hospital patients. May assist in taking and recording vital signs, preparing and administering irrigations and enemas. May give baths, heat lamp treatments and tube feedings; may record intake and output of fluids and assist in admissions and discharges. A current LPN licensure is required. ^ to index
M Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technologist (MRI Tech): Operates magnetic resonance imaging equipment. Produces and reviews images to assure high quality of results for the primary physician requesting the studies.
Mail Clerk: Receives, sorts and distributes incoming and interdepartmental mail. Picks up and dispatches outgoing mail. Operates a variety of mechanical equipment such as folding, stamping and addressing machines.
Maintenance Worker: Performs general, routine maintenance and servicing operations throughout the hospital plant and other areas as directed.
Mammography Technologist, Registered: Performs screening and diagnostic mammographic procedures and QA/QC per FDA and ACR. May perform routine radiologic diagnostic procedures for use in diagnosis of patient conditions by physicians. Requires additional certification from ARRT.
Medical Assistant: In clinic setting, assists physicians with materials, instruments and equipment during exams and treatment of patients. Prepares rooms, sterilizes and cleans instruments, maintains inventory of supplies, takes vital signs, completes paperwork for lab and x-ray. Certified medical assistant program or equivalent experience is required.
Medical Assistant II: In clinic setting transcribes physician's orders directly from inpatient hardback medical records. These include ordering medications, diagnostic lab tests, radiology and special procedures, EKGs, consultations, therapies, diet orders, scans, IVs, etc. Enters all patient movement data into computer system for admitting, discharging and transferring patients. Enters vital information directly relating to continuity of patient care. Certified medical assistant program or equivalent experience is required.
Medical Dosimetrist: Involved in radiation therapy planning team who understands the general characteristics of radiation therapy machines, equipment and their clinical relevance. Has knowledge of radioactive sources commonly employed in brachy therapy procedures and has the training and expertise necessary to generate radiation dose distributions and calculations under the direction of the medical physicists and the radiation oncologists.
Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT): Performs routine testing of biological samples and report results to assist physicians in the diagnosis and treatment of patient illnesses. Certification is typically required.
Medical Librarian: Collaborates with hospital education department and continuing medical education in strategic planning, goal setting, and implementation. Maintains medical library holdings; evaluates, recommends new acquisitions. Participates in interlibrary loans to provide materials to users. Knowledge and at least two years of experience in library systems and medical library systems is typically required. Majors in library science or a related degree is required.
Medical Library Technician: Assists the medical library manager in helping clients obtain needed library information. Obtains materials through computer searches and national electronic mail systems or interlibrary loan networks.
Medical Records Clerk: Retrieves and files patient records, and checks records for completeness and proper format. Photocopies records for release of information and retrieves information for phone requests.
Medical Staff Coordinator, Certified: Coordinates all medical staff activities and acts as liaison between the medical staff, nursing staff and administration within the parameters established by the manager and officers of the medical staff.
Medical Technologist: Performs chemical, microscopic and bacteriological tests to provide data for use in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases. Typically requires ASCP registration or equivalent.
Mental Health Therapist: Provides initial evaluation, crisis intervention, individual and group consultation and therapy to treat mental health problems. Consults with physicians and other providers to obtain client information and coordinate treatment. Utilizes outside support agencies. Typically requires bachelors or masters degree in social work, counseling, psychology or equivalent.
Monitor Technician: Observes EKG monitors on a constant basis on an ICU/CCU or telemetry unit. Documents and reports any change in monitor rhythms. ^ to index
N Nuclear Medicine Technologist: Performs procedures in the clinical nuclear medicine laboratory to include radiopharmaceutical preparation and administration, scanning and in vitro studies. Registration as a nuclear medicine technologist is required.
Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA): In concert with physician, administers IV, epidural, spinal, and other anesthetics. Monitors patient's conditions taking appropriate action as necessary. Records preoperative, operative, and postoperative conditions. A registered nurse with CRNA-certification is required.
Nurse Practitioner-Licensed: Responsible for advanced level of nursing evaluation, clinical assessment, prescribing and monitoring medications and follow-up care for patient. Includes patient and family teaching. Includes specialized work in pediatrics, geriatrics, etc. Current licensure as a nurse practitioner is required.
Nurse, Registered: Responsible for, and participates in, nursing care of assigned patients. Assesses patients' needs, develops individual nursing care plans, educates patients, and communicates with charge nurse or nurse manager regarding status of assigned patients. A current registered nurse license is required.
Nursing Instructor: Works with new nursing personnel during orientation to familiarize them with hospital policies and procedures. Instructs nursing personnel in the classroom and in clinical settings; assesses skill levels and educational needs, and tailors programs accordingly. Assists with design of staff development program. A current registered nurse license is required.
Nursing Staff Coordinator: Coordinates hour-to-hour staffing needs, educational time and vacation requests. Responsible for statistical data. Does not coordinate physician staffing schedules; typically non-R.N.. ^ to index
O Occupational Health R.N.: Provides requested services to businesses relating to on-site nursing, claims management, modified/return to work, job safety analysis. Provides CPR/first aid training. A current registered nurse license is required.
Occupational Therapist: Selects, performs and/or directs educational, vocational and recreational activities designed to restore maximum function to physically and/or mentally disabled patients, upon physician's referral. A BS degree in occupational therapy with successful completion of the American Therapy Certification Program is required.
Operating Room Assistant: Assists in the operating room by cleaning and preparing operating rooms, retrieving equipment, stocking supplies and performing errands. Provides basic care services under the direct supervision of the nurse manager or registered nurse. ^ to index
P Patient Account Representative/Biller: Verifies hospital insurance coverage for patient's hospital stay. Prepares insurance assignment forms and computes hospital bill. Answers questions regarding statements and insurance coverage.
Patient Financial Counselor: Verifies eligibility and benefits for all inpatients admitted daily, outpatient surgeries, high balance procedures, high balance emergency room patients, elective inpatient and outpatient surgeries and OB patients. Obtains or initiates authorizations. Works with patients or guarantors to set up payment arrangements.
Patient Services Assistant: Reports to R.N. on the unit. Assists with patient care support, passing meal trays, transporting patients, and housekeeping duties in patient rooms. Does not require CNA certification.
Payroll Specialist: Primarily responsible for handling all of the payroll duties and ensures the accuracy and timeliness of payroll processing. Prepares reports for all payroll-related liabilities (withholding taxes, garnishments, insurance premiums) and reconciling these accounts. Works independently within broad general guidelines and assists with other various accounting duties in addition to payroll functions.
Pharmacist, Staff: Compounds and dispenses medications according to established procedures, law and regulations. May instruct medical personnel and patients on matters pertaining to medications. A current registration and state pharmacy license is required.
Pharmacy Clerk: Assists pharmacists in the retail pharmacies in billing and filing, assisting customers, pricing, stocking and other clerical duties.
Pharmacy Intern: Under the direct supervision of a registered pharmacist, performs duties associated with the practice of pharmacy as prescribed by state and federal statutes.
Pharmacy Technician: Under the direction of a licensed pharmacist, performs supportive clerical and technical tasks in a pharmacy, possibly using a unit dose drug distribution system or IV admixture service. May also clean equipment and work areas in a pharmacy.
Phlebotomist: Draws blood specimens. Assures proper identification and handling of specimens for analysis.
Physical Therapist:Treats patients with disabilities, disorders and injuries to relieve pain and develop, restore, or maintain physical function by the use of exercise, massage, heat, cold, air, light, water, electricity or sound therapies, as prescribed by a physician. Graduate of a two-year physical therapy program is required.
Physical Therapy Aide: Assists in routine physical therapy activities for the care and treatment of patients having physical disabilities. Maintains department and equipment in an orderly condition. May transport patients.
Physical Therapy Assistant (Licensed): Performs para-professional therapy duties under the direction of a physical therapist for the care and treatment of patients having physical disorders; does related work as required. Graduate of two-year physical therapy program in required.
Physician Assistant: Provides primary care to patients. Takes histories, orders appropriate diagnostic tests, provides treatment to minor/routine problems, and gives appropriate counseling to patients. Typically requires graduation from an accredited physician assistant program and national certification.
Physicist: Performs all aspects of job description in all radiation modalities inclusive of radiation oncology, diagnostic imaging and the radiation safety committee. Provides radiation treatment and services for all ages.
Polysom Tech: Performs diagnostic tests to determine origin of sleep-related disorders. Connects patients to monitoring devices and sensors (such as EEG electrodes, respiratory movement sensors) for the purpose of collecting sleep-disorder data. Tabulates and interprets data. Typically requires one- year training as a polysomnographic technician and registration with the board of polysomnographic technicians.
Print Machine Operator: Performs all in-house printing of forms, brochures, etc. Maintains adequate supply of printed stock. May operate camera, bindery machines; prepares paste-ups and coordinates outside services.
Publications Writer/Editor: Writes, edits and coordinates production of external and internal periodicals, brochures and other hospital publications. ^ to index
Q Quality Management Assistant: Coordinates the data collection, computer entry and report generation. Additionally, performs clerical functions. ^ to index
R Radiation Therapy Technician: Administers the technical aspects of applying ionizing irradiation to patients in accordance with physician prescriptions and instructions: includes calculating and checking dosages, performs simulation, reassuring and positioning patients, and delivering radiation therapy.

Radiology Supervisor, Registered: Under supervision of the radiology manager, coordinates patient flow in radiology services. Provides staff development and education. Responsible for staff management and has basic supervisory responsibilities. Provides input and assistance on operational and capital budgets. Performs routine radiographic procedures. Requires registration as a radiologic technologist.
Respiratory Therapist: Administers a variety of treatments to patients most of which require operating of respiratory equipment such as humidifiers, aerosol units, ventilators, pulmonary function equipment and blood gas analyzers, as ordered by a physician. Secretary, Department: Provides secretarial assistance to department heads, requiring detailed knowledge of department and hospital policies and procedures; makes appointments, coordinates departmental workflow. Requires a moderate amount of planning scheduling of activities and analysis of information.
Secretary, Executive: Provides secretarial assistance to executive and administrative officers, requiring independent initiative and overall knowledge of the organization's operations and responsibilities. May direct and/or coordinate the work of other clerical support.
Secretary, Medical Staff: Provides clerical assistance to medical staff committee activities. Processes appropriate documentation as prescribed in appointment/credentialing/privileging process.
Secretary, Unit: Performs general clerical duties on a nursing unit, answers phones, relays messages to patients, maintains patient records, orders supplies and generally assists nursing and medical staff in clerical duties.
Security Officer: Provides security for patients, employees and visitors; protects hospital buildings, assets and premises as assigned.
Social Worker, MSW: Handles advanced and comprehensive caseload assignments such as placement of patients to appropriate facilities. Analyzes, interprets social problems, counsels and aids children, adults and families. Requires a master's degree in social work.
Special Procedures Technologist (Angiography Tech): Operates angiography equipment and provides medical assistance to physicians in the performance of angiographic examinations. Assures equipment is operational, maintains operating procedures and technique charts.
Speech/Language Pathologist: Evaluates, treats and provides rehabilitation and counseling for those with speech and language problems to restore or improve communicative efficiency. Must have master's degree in speech pathology and certificate of clinical competence.
Staffing Specialist: Supports and coordinates the staffing for inpatient nursing units or other areas; assigns float staff to adjust for sickness, absences, and census.
Storekeeper/Receiving Clerk: Stores items in designated areas; reviews requisitions, pulls items from stock and places in delivery area or delivers to requestors.
Surgical Technologist (OR Technician): Assist the physicians and registered nurses during the operative procedure by providing the appropriate sutures, supplies, instruments and equipment.
