Unvaccinated health care workers can pass highly contagious
influenza to their patients, many of whom are at high risk for complications of
influenza. Hospitals are working closely with the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) and other health authorities to protect patients, employees
and the public from influenza.
The Minnesota Hospital
Association is an official sponsor of the MDH’s
FluSafe program, with the goal of attaining 100 percent influenza
vaccination rates among hospital employees (without medical contraindications).
Participation in FluSafe is voluntary. During the 2015-16 influenza season, 34 MHA member hospitals achieved vaccination rates of 90
percent or higher earning the blue ribbon; 24 had vaccination rates between
80-89 percent and earned the red ribbon; and 16 hospitals achieved vaccination
for 70-79 percent of workers, achieving the white ribbon.
