Standardized, Colored Wristbands

Hospitals across the state have worked to implement standardized, colored “alert” wristbands. In the past, variations among hospitals in the use of the wristbands caused confusion among caregivers, staff and patients and had the potential to lead to patient harm. While many hospitals still use colored wristbands, most hospitals use the following standardized approach to signal different alerts to staff:

Red = Allergy
Yellow = Fall Risk
Purple = Do Not Resuscitate
Pink = Restricted Extremity
Green = Latex Allergy
