ICYMI: Dr. Rahul Koranne, CEO and president of the Minnesota Hospital Association appeared on TPT’s Almanac alongside Hennepin County Commissioner Jeffrey Lunde and Dr. Mattson from the Minnesota Medical Association to discuss the deepening crisis facing hospitals and the patients who depend on them.
Key takeaway: Minnesota hospitals face a systemic crisis. Dr. Koranne explained that the status across the state is dire:
“There are 31 hospitals across the state that are financially distressed… There are 18 rural hospitals that are at risk of closing.”
More severe issues to come: Dr. Koranne described current issues as the “earthquake” before the “tsunami” effect implementation of H.R. 1 will have on hospital finances.
Help needed: Dr. Koranne asked the Minnesota legislature to stand with all nonprofit hospitals. Some need a check now to stay afloat as they are already beginning closure proceedings. Hospitals across the state need support in defending against Big Pharma and protecting the 340B drug pricing program.
