The Minnesota Hospital Association's many committees work to advance the goals of the association's priority issues. Each committee is comprised by individuals representing hospital members from across the state, establishing policies to advance the delivery of health care in Minnesota.

Annual Meeting Task Force

Evaluates past annual meetings; recommends changes in format, schedule and other components; plans educational content; and assists in implementing those plans. The task force meets once in April.

Healthcare Executives’ Institute Task Force

Plans the content and format of the annual executives’ institute, working to provide challenging and practical educational sessions for hospital leaders. The task force meets once a year.

Standing Committees

Finance Committee

Provides detailed financial analysis and recommendations on various financial issues to the MHA Policy and Advocacy Committee. Specifically, the committee deals with Prepaid Medical Assistance Program issues, Medical Assistance program issues, Medicaid and Medicare reimbursement issues, financial reporting requirements to the Department of Health and analysis and recommendations on legislative proposals as well as the state budget.

In-House Legal Counsel Committee

Discusses and develops common implementation strategies regarding recent legislation, regulations and court decisions. Makes recommendations to the MHA board on legal implications of proposed legislation or regulations for MHA members. Discusses and shares issues of concern and develops consensus recommendations to MHA’s board regarding approaches MHA could take to address such issues. Examines and discusses existing hospital practices to better understand and define community standards.

Mental and Behavioral Health Committee

The Mental and Behavioral Health Committee is comprised of leaders from across the continuum that serve patients, families and communities in this area. This committee serves as a leadership and expert group for mental and behavioral health care. The committee reviews evidence to identify best practices related to mental and behavioral health care delivery across the continuum of care. The committee recommends actions and education that various stakeholders can partner on to continuously improve mental and behavioral health delivery across the continuum of care.

Policy and Advocacy Committee

Evaluates issues of interest and importance to MHA’s members and makes proactive recommendations for strategic policy positions and the MHA legislative agenda to the MHA board. The committee also provides a forum for discussion and evaluation of non-MHA legislative proposals.

Quality and Safety Committee

To improve and enhance quality and safety in all aspects of care to advance the triple aim. The Quality and Safety Committee addresses public policy, leadership and bed practices to position MHA and its member facilities as demonstrated leaders in quality and safety across settings of care, including transitions. The committee develops and disseminates model templates, safety policies and successful practices and resources.

Small, Rural Hospital Committee

Identifies and reviews issues to develop recommendations and proposals. Any issues relevant to rural health care can be considered, including legislative, regulatory and public policy positions initiated by MHA membership and staff. The committee encourages greater interaction with national, state and local organizations concerned with rural health issues.

Trustee Council

Develops and promotes state and regional programs, major conferences and resources for trustees of member organizations and systems. Identifies mechanisms for facilitating trustee networking, trustee leadership and political advocacy roles with MHA and at the American Hospital Association level.

Workforce Development Committee

Identifies, supports and develops resources and policies that increase health care workforce supply, improve hospital employee retention and support the best use of hospital resources, both human and technological. The committee reviews current legislative, regulatory and public policy positions and provides recommendations to the MHA Board of Directors regarding workforce implications to support a framework for effective advocacy.
