River’s Edge Hospital & Clinic honored with MHA Best Minnesota Hospital Workplace Award

The Minnesota Hospital Association (MHA) in May honored innovative programs and outstanding leaders in health care at its 32nd annual awards ceremony.

Seventeen awards were given for extraordinary achievement in categories ranging from advocacy on behalf of hospitals and volunteerism to innovation and improvement in patient care and patient safety.

River’s Edge Hospital & Clinic in St. Peter received the Best Minnesota Hospital Workplace Award in the small hospital category, which recognizes hospitals that have gone the extra mile to strengthen employee engagement and satisfaction.

In recent years, leaders at River’s Edge have implemented a series of best practices to improve employee turnover, morale and, ultimately, patient satisfaction. The hospital identified several new processes for orientation, training and recognition that resulted in increased employee retention. These processes, along with monthly employee rounding, thank-you notes and employee engagement surveys, have helped River’s Edge develop a culture of camaraderie and teamwork.

Employees have embraced the changes that have taken place at River’s Edge. Everyone has a stake in what matters most – patients’ well-being and satisfaction. This value is exemplified daily in the halls when staff, regardless of job title, are helping patients and visitors.

Additional award winners will be profiled in upcoming issues of Newsline. To learn more about the award winners, visit the MHA websitereturn to top

MHA Summer Trustee Conference to be held July 8-10

MHA’s 30th annual Summer Trustee Conference will be held July 8-10 at Arrowwood Resort and Conference Center in Alexandria. The conference is designed to provide hospital board members with the opportunity to focus on challenges facing trustees. It features six general sessions and nine breakouts focusing on issues of transformation, reform, patient safety and the future of health care.

Kristina Weger, senior director of federal relations, American Hospital Association, will provide a look at the hottest debates in Washington and share insights on the political race and how candidates can shape or reshape health care for years to come during her presentation, “What’s in Store for the 2016 Presidential Election.”

Minneapolis-based musician, composer and speaker Billy McLaughlin will share his inspiring story during his presentation, “Rethinking Impossible: Completely Impossible Today is Totally Do-able Tomorrow.” After an incurable neuromuscular disorder rendered him unable to play his own music, McLaughlin, unwilling to give up his music career, began the slow and painstaking process of relearning his instrument using his opposite hand. He will share how achieving the impossible simply required clarity of purpose, commitment to mission and celebrating each step on the path to his goals.
