MHA urged governor to sign omnibus supplemental budget bill, capital bonding bill

MHA last week wrote to Governor Mark Dayton urging him to sign the omnibus supplemental budget bill (SF 3656), amendments to the omnibus bill (SF 799) and the capital bonding bill (HF 4425).

In a letter regarding the omnibus supplemental budget bill, MHA President and CEO Lawrence Massa wrote, “These bills are not ideal. As with almost every omnibus spending bill, there are provisions we wish had been included and some we wish were omitted. Overall, however, SF 3656 as amended by SF 799 offers important steps in our state’s ongoing work to make high-quality health care affordable and accessible for all Minnesotans.”

Regarding the capital bonding bill, Massa highlighted MHA’s strong support for bill components that address mental and behavioral health needs in Minnesota, including funding for behavioral health crisis centers, supportive housing for people with serious mental illnesses, affordable housing and facility improvements at the state’s hospital in St. Peter and Anoka Metro Regional Treatment Center.

Dayton vetoed the omnibus supplemental budget bill on May 23. As of the publishing time of this newsletter, he has not yet taken action on the capital bonding bill. return to top
