CMS price transparency rule now in effect
The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) FY2019
Inpatient Prospective Payment System final rule that became effective Jan. 1
requires hospitals to post their chargemasters and standard charges on their
websites in a machine-readable format.
MHA convened a task force to examine the new regulation and develop recommendations for
members. These resources were provided in December to member chief executive
officers, chief financial officers, task force members and primary
communicators, as well as to MHA members in the Dec. 10 issue of Newsline.
In addition, a new state law will take effect July 1 requiring clinics to post
average payments for the most common procedures. MHA will provide guidance on
this requirement in the coming months.

Care Leadership Institute to feature generational diversity presentations
The MHA Health Care Leadership Institute will be
held March 6-8 at the Crowne Plaza Minneapolis West in Plymouth. The conference
will feature generational diversity in health care presentations from Minneapolis-based
health care consultant Farah Habad and a panel of fourth-year medical students.
Habad’s presentation, “When Generations Connect: Four Generations of Health
Care Employees,” will identify where generation gaps arise in health care
organizations and how health care organizations can start bridging the
communication divide. The session will provide tools to more effectively
communicate and collaborate across generations while turning generational
diversity from an obstacle into an opportunity and creating a culture where all
generations will feel valued, listened to and respected.
A panel presentation featuring fourth-year medical students, “The Next
Generation of Physicians: Wants, Needs and Expectations,” will provide insights
into what is important to physicians as they choose a specialty, where to
practice and where to live, as well as how to attract physicians to your
