Local hospital and health system leaders recognized by Minnesota Hospital Association for completing comprehensive certification training

ST. PAUL, Minn. — Four hospital and health system trustees from across Minnesota were recognized for earning certification through the Minnesota Hospital Association’s trustee certification program. The rigorous and comprehensive certification process prepares hospital and health system trustees to effectively meet the growing demands of serving on a hospital and health system board and to be strong health care and community leaders.

By participating in MHA’s voluntary certification program, hospital and health system trustees receive training on current health care trends, governance best practices, ethics, government regulations, patient safety and quality. Participants undergo 30 hours of coursework, making Minnesota’s initiative the most comprehensive in the nation.

“Hospitals and health systems are cornerstones for the communities they serve, and are facing a multitude of historic challenges,” said Dr. Rahul Koranne, MHA president and CEO. “MHA’s trustee certification program ensures that hospital and health system leaders are well-prepared for their roles.”

The evolution of governance policies and practices is ongoing. Trustees earning these certifications demonstrate their commitment to patients, staff, and the communities their hospital and health system serve.

Newly certified trustees include:

  • Richard Peterson, Rainy Lake Medical Center
  • Steve Condon, CCM Health
  • Kathleen Ryan, Riverwood Healthcare Center
  • Dr. Eric Nelson, Alomere Health
