Essentia Health's Partnership with One Roof Community Housing

Minnesota’s hospitals and health systems reach beyond their walls to support their communities. Since 1999, Essentia Health has partnered with One Roof Community Housing, a Duluth-based nonprofit committed to providing housing services and building and sustaining affordable homes and healthy neighborhoods.

Essentia Health has contributed over $1.8 million to One Roof Community Housing, including a $1.425 million investment to bring 52 new units of affordable rental housing to Duluth’s Central Hillside community. The development, Brewery Creek, is under construction now and will provide much needed housing for some of the community’s most vulnerable residents. Other projects by Essentia Health and One Roof Community Housing include:

  • Renovation financing of a building that sustained several fires. Brewery Creek Terrace will be converted into 21 apartments, 16 of which are to be affordable to households at or below 80% of the area’s median income.
  • Brae View Senior Apartments is a new construction project that will transform a parking lot into a 72-unit building designated for tenants 55+ years of age. Brae View will also include community space for childcare and office space for service providers. The land for Brae View was donated by Essentia Health in partnership with the Benedictine Sisters.

By providing safe and stable housing to its residents, Essentia Health is making its community healthier.
