Minnesota’s hospitals and health systems serve and are part of increasingly diverse communities and facing a workforce shortage across the state. In response to both of these factors, Children’s Minnesota took on an innovative approach to diverse hiring.
Through recruitment events and career fairs, advancements in benefits, and a reduction in hiring time, Children’s Minnesota was able to grow their workforce and hire teams that reflect the diversity of the communities they serve. Laurin Cathey, chief human resources officer at Children’s Minnesota, was awarded an MHA Workforce Innovation leadership award for these efforts, which resulted in more than 2,000 new hires in 2022, 37% of whom were BIPOC.
