Gillette Children’s: Black Men in White Coats Initiative

Gillette Children’s is working toward a more equitable future in health care by encouraging children of all backgrounds to consider careers in health care. In partnership with Metro State University and the Boys and Girls Club of Twin Cities, Gillette Children’s hosted its first Black Men in White Coats event in 2022. This event came at an important time, following a report highlighting a decreasing number of Black male applicants to medical school. Due to its success, the Black Men in White Coats event will be returning to Gillette Children’s this fall. The event features several speakers including medial students, residents, and physicians with the theme to build a stronger and more equitable future in the medical field.

Gillette Children’s was presented with an MHA Award for Community Benefit at the 2023 Annual Meeting for this initiative.
