Let House leadership know we oppose HHS spending targets

MHA has set up a website with a petition that will be sent to House Republican leadership in opposition to their spending targets announced before spring break. House leadership has proposed a $1.14 billion cut to health and human services spending, despite a nearly $2 billion surplus. For more information on the budget targets, visit MHA’s Member Centerreturn to top

April is Donate Life Month

Currently more than 123,000 men, women and children in the U.S. are awaiting organ transplants to save their lives. Thousands more are in need of tissue and cornea transplants to restore their mobility and sight. During the month of April, organizations and communities are encouraged to celebrate National Donate Life Month, a celebration commemorating those who have received or continue to wait for lifesaving transplants as well as the donors who save and heal lives.

MHA and its member hospitals have worked closely with LifeSource, a federally designated organization that manages organ and tissue donation in the Upper Midwest, to increase the number of registered donors in the state and to strengthen the culture of donation in Minnesota. Hospitals and their staff play a vital role in donation and transplantation. Hospitals not only facilitate the medical procedures, but are a trusted source of information about donation and state donor registries.

Registering to be a donor can provide hope to those who wait. Your hospital can celebrate National Donate Life Month by installing a specially designed web banner on your hospital’s intranet to let your staff know their contributions are appreciated and remind them of the importance of registering as organ, eye and tissue donors. The web banners are available for download at http://donatelife.net/hospitals/. National Healthcare Decisions Day is April 16

The goal of National Healthcare Decisions Day is simple – to have every hospital, community center, nursing home, newspaper, church and others help the public better understand end-of-life planning and advance directives.

With a focus on education, this annual day helps increase the number of people who understand the importance of end-of-life planning, talk with their loved ones and complete an advance directive. Hospitals across the country are participating. From hosting education sessions for the community and hospital staff to making advance directives available, there are many ways to be involved.
