Hospitals need allies where decisions are made, and the Minnesota Hospital Political Action Committee (PAC) makes contributions to state and federal candidates from both political parties who support the goals of hospitals.

Minnesota Hospital PAC FAQs

Why do Minnesota's hospitals need a PAC?

Each year the Minnesota Legislature and Congress debate many proposed laws affecting health care. Those laws affect all aspects of health care – from health reform to licensure guidelines, from reimbursement to waste handling. No matter what your health care role is, state and federal legislation affects you.

Voluntary contributions can be made by CEOs and administrators, members of the medical management staffs, trustees, and volunteers. Fundraising activities are conducted jointly with the American Hospital Association (AHA) PAC. Only contributions made by the AHA’s solicitable class will be used for federal legislators.

Minnesota Hospital PAC has its own voluntary board of directors, comprised of members of the Minnesota Hospital Association. The board members decide which legislative candidates should receive campaign contributions. MHA members are welcome to make recommendations concerning legislative candidates.

The Federal Election Commission (FEC) established federal campaign finance guidelines that require AHAPAC, and state hospital associations acting on its behalf, to have prior approval from the hospital CEO or other authorized representatives before the solicitation of eligible employees of the hospital occurs. Find out more and complete your prior approval.
