Adverse Health Event Annual Report

In 2003, Minnesota hospitals and health systems championed groundbreaking legislation to become the first state in the nation to publicly report adverse health events. Based on National Quality Forum definitions, adverse health events include retained objects after surgery, serious medication errors, pressure ulcers and more. Minnesota’s approach goes beyond reporting; other hospitals and health systems can learn from reported events and improve care to prevent future events.
